Key features

  • Calculates exact age in years, months, and days — not just a rough year subtraction
  • Accounts for leap years and different month lengths automatically
  • Shows total days and weeks lived alongside your age
  • Counts down to your next birthday
  • Works for any two dates, past or future, not just today

Why use this age calculator

  • Useful for eligibility checks that require exact age (school admissions, competitive exams, retirement age)
  • Avoids the common off-by-one error from manually subtracting birth year from current year
  • Instant result with no sign-up or app download required

How it works

This calculator counts the complete years, months, and days between your date of birth and any reference date you choose — correctly handling leap years and the fact that months have different lengths, which a naive "current year minus birth year" calculation ignores entirely.

A worked example

Say you were born on March 14, 1995, and want your exact age as of today. The calculator counts complete years, then complete months within the current year, then remaining days — giving a precise "30 years, 5 months, 19 days" instead of a rough estimate. It also flags that your next birthday is a specific number of days away, which a simple year-subtraction can't tell you at all.

Why exact age matters more than you'd think

Eligibility rules — school admission cutoffs, competitive exam age limits, retirement dates, insurance pricing — are almost always defined by exact age on a specific date, not just birth year. A person born on December 31 can be a full year "older" by an eligibility rule than someone born January 1 the same year, depending on the cutoff date. Getting this exact, down to the day, is often the difference between qualifying and not.

Frequently asked questions

How is my exact age calculated?

By counting the full years, months, and remaining days between your date of birth and today (or any date you choose), accounting for different month lengths and leap years.

Why do I need this instead of just subtracting years?

Subtracting birth year from the current year gives the wrong answer before your birthday has passed this year — this calculator accounts for the exact month and day, not just the year.

Can I calculate my age on a future or past date?

Yes — change the "As of" date to see your age on any specific date, past or future, which is useful for eligibility cutoffs or planning ahead.

How many days until my next birthday?

The calculator shows this automatically once you enter your date of birth, alongside your total days and weeks lived.
