Fraction Calculator

Convert both fractions to a common denominator first — multiplying each fraction's numerator and denominator by the other's denominator works for any pair — then add the numerators. This calculator does that automatically and simplifies the result.

Multiply by the reciprocal — flip the second fraction upside down, then multiply straight across. For example, 1/2 ÷ 1/3 becomes 1/2 × 3/1 = 3/2.

The calculator divides both the numerator and denominator by their greatest common divisor, so you always get the simplest equivalent fraction rather than something like 4/8 when 1/2 would do.
